What’s This, What’s This? Nightmare Before Christmas at Krakit

We’re officially in December, and the holiday season is fully upon Vancouver and the rest of the Lower Mainland. The Lights of Hope at St. Paul’s hospital went on with a bang, the Stanley Park Christmas Train is running every weekend, and the Christmas caterpillar has moved into Coquitlam Town Centre Park.

Though Halloween may be our favourite holiday at Krakit Escape Game, we’re equally given to holiday cheer. And, so, we’re really excited for the return of our popular Nightmare Before Christmas room.

There’s broken toys and missing stockings—and Oogie Boogie tricks are everywhere. It looks like Halloween is here to stay. But not if you have anything to say about it! You and your team get 45 minutes to stop Halloween from taking over and save the true spirit of Christmas.

Though it didn’t take us quite as long to build our Nightmare Before Christmas escape room as it took Tim Burton to film his stop-motion masterpiece (two years!), we’ve put tons of effort into making it equal parts Halloween scare and Christmas sparkle, just like Halloweentown. Plus, we threw in some brian-scratching riddles for good measure.

Also, families should take note that we’ve made a few changes for the 2015 version, with one of the biggest being that we’ve dialed the rating down from “hard” last year to “average” this year.

However, you’ll be relieved to know that, unlike Jack Skellington, we at Krakit aren’t at all bored of frightening people. Our Zombie Apocalypse, Saw, and Asylum rooms are also open through the holiday season.

Book a session at Krakit Escape Game, located on the border of Burnaby and Coquitlam and near to Lougheed Town Centre Station, here: http://www.bookeo.com/krakit.

Prepping for the Holiday Escape

We receive a lot of questions about our escape rooms from potential guests, but one of our favourites is: "How can I prepare for the Krakit escape experience?"

Well, for our new SAMTSIRHCER EROFEB ERAMTHGIN (Nightmare Before Christmas) theme we've created a detailed prep regiment. We can't guarantee it will lead to success, but it's the only clue we're offering in advance, so do with it what you will.

Background Viewing
Start with "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and move outwards. Include all those weird claymation shows about the dentist and Rudolph. CBC seems to be offering one a night.

Holiday Math
Count the number of lights on your Christmas tree, then times that number by ten, divide by five and add three. Remember that number.

Elvish Memories
Put the extended poem, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," to memory. You may need it. You may not…

Shopping List
Get all your holiday shopping finished. You don't want to be thinking about the gifts you need to buy when you're inside the escape room. Christmas won't be saved by a distracted mind.

Logs On the Fire
Fuel up for your Krakit appointment with a combination smoothie of candy canes, gingerbread latte and Brussels spouts. "Mmmm…that does go well with the turkey."

Christmas Conductor
Take a ride on the Stanley Park Christmas train. Underneath the first seat, on the third car from the front, is a clue. Tell no one.

Follow this simple prep schedule and you might have a chance.*

SAMTSIRHC EROFEB ERAMTGHIN

The holidays are almost here and everywhere you look things are gearing up for the arrival of St. Nick. The Stanley Park Christmas Train is chugging into the station, the lights at St. Paul’s are twinkling, the forest of trees are decorated at the Four Seasons and the German Christmas Market is pouring warm cups of Glühwein. It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas…

But out in Burnaby, something has gone awry. The bells have stopped ringing, the stockings are missing, the snowmen are melting and there are whispers that Christmas may not be coming. Could the holiday vacuum spread to the rest of the world? Who knows.

A handful of clues have been left near the fire, in hopes that a few brave souls can save Christmas. The puzzle begins with a simple phrase, etched into the mantle: "SAMTSIRHC EROFEB ERAMTGHIN." What does it mean? And who wrote it? Can you help save Christmas?

Krakit believes you can. All December we are offering a holiday theme room that will stump even the finest detectives. The room has been graded 'Hard' by our tech team, but no one said saving Christmas would be easy. So come solve the mystery of the missing holiday cheer and secure yourself a spot on Santa's good list.

Book your session in advance to guarantee yourself a shot at keeping Christmas alive. You will have 45 minutes to complete the room. Good luck!

*The fright level has been turned down for the holidays, so that the young ones can join (you'd be surprised at the problem solving abilities of some children). But for our adult crowd, don't worry; we still have our Asylum, Zombie Apocalypse and Butcher themes to scare the tinsel off you. Our live actors will make sure you leave thoroughly spooked.
